Sponsors on board

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Over the last few weeks we have been fortunate enough to pick up some sponsors. We are so grateful to these people and companies for choosing us. It means a lot, everything, no matter how big or small helps on a trip like this.

Icebreaker is supplying us with some excellent merino wool clothing. Icebreaker will keep us warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot thanks to their well thought out ‘Get Layered’ system. Ultra fine base layers and thicker top layers will see us through a variety of climates and conditions. Thanks Icebreaker.

Tilley Endurables is supplying both of us with some underwear and socks and Liz a Tilley Hat. A Tilley Hat is for life not just for summer. Tilley Hats have a lifetime guarantee and they float. Chris has had a Tilley Hat for 8 years and it has let him be outside, enjoying the weather without getting melted by the sun. Thanks Tilley.

Hilleberg The Tentmaker is supplying us with a ground sheet for our tent and some pole holders. The ground sheet will help prolong the life of the tent and the pole holders will allow the inner of our tunnel tent to be pitched on its own when its really hot. Thanks Hilleberg.

PedalPower+ has given us a massive discount on a bicycle dynamo and V4 battery pack. The dynamo charges the battery pack, this allows us to store the energy, giving us endless power that can be used when we need it. Vital for charging MP3 players and cameras, which will keep us peddling, singing and snapping without having to stop and find mains electricity. Thanks PedalPower+.

For all the geeks out there Chris will be doing a blog entirely dedicated to our electrical set up in the near future. Anyone else interested in sponsoring Bikeabout please get in touch.

Tim Farron, MP gives his support

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Since Scotland we have both been very busy, working and getting ready for the trip. It’s amazing how long even the smallest of tasks takes, but we are getting there slowly and we are also getting very excited now. We can’t wait for everything to be packed away and to have our bikes and a few possessions ready by the front door ready to set off on our cycling adventure. We have booked our flights and fly to Auckland from London on the 2nd September. Some sponsorship money is slowly trickling in, a Big Thanks to all those that have donated so far, you can revel in the knowledge that you will have helped build a school.

In the next month we will be blogging about our plans to raise the money needed to build a school. Until then we hope that the article in the Westmorland Gazette will increase the public profile of the trip and encourage people to donate.

Many thanks to Tim Farron, our local MP for his words of support for our trip.

‘Liz and Chris are setting out on an ambitious, daring and exciting project – and they deserve our admiration for that alone. However, the cause they are supporting in their mammoth trek is so important. In raising funds to allow children from one of the poorest parts of the world to have the chance to escape their poverty through education, they will be making a huge difference. Donations to the cause will lead to the building of a school which will create hitherto undreamt-of opportunities for children who would otherwise be confined to a life of ignorance and poverty’ Tim Farron, MP
