Railay Cave Abseil
This a fun and exciting adventure that takes you through the middle of one Railay's prominent rock features (see picture right, the far left column). It involves walking, scrambling and climbing up some insitue bamboo ladders before a lovely abseil down towards West Railay Beach, from here it's a short scramble down to sea level and and even shorter walk to get ice-cream and enjoy the feeling of a completed adventure.
From East Railay Beach take the path to Phra Nang Beach. Walk North until the beach ends and the rock starts. Head for the big open part of the cave, once inside explore your way up and through until you reach the abseil point. There are a number of bamboo ladders in place to help you get here. From here you can see West Railay and the abseil below. There are a couple of anchors points with circular metal rings from.
What to bring: Head torches, water, trainers or sandals with support to wear. An experienced abseiler/climber and climbing/abseil gear. If you don't know what you are doing or are not sure you can hire a guide who will take you on this trip and supply all the equipment.
As you can see, we went with Chris's little brother and sister (4 and 5). Children's harnesses can be hired for 100 baht each from the climbing shops. We brought our own climbing/abseiling gear and ropes, however you can hire everything.
Once you reach the bottom, there are a few climbing routes along the rockface, in both directions.
To get down you can follow the roped path and work your way through the wooded area until you arrive at the bottom, at Railay West beach.
