Secret Lagoon Railay, Krabi, Thailand
The Lagoon is located in the middle of one of Railay's mountainous outcrops, it is best visited at high water, as there is more water in the lagoon. At low water the lagoon can turn into a muddy pit. When you are in the lagoon you are flanked by an impressive column of limestone, it is like arriving at a place that time forgot and you would not be silly for thinking that a lagoon monster might be lurking in the water below. That said we swam in the lagoon and lived to tell the tale.
To get to the lagoon you need to negotiate a steep scramble up and well trodden track. From East Railay beach head South (right if facing the sea) to the information centre and take a right. Here there is a nice flat path with impressive limestone rock features on the left and monkeys in the trees on the right.
Walk down this path and look out for a very steep well worn rocky path and the danger sign on the left.
This is the start, we don't perceive this as being dangerous, but think about wearing trainers or good sandals rather than flip flops and best to go when it's dry. You know your own limits, so if your not comfortable don't do it or come back with someone that is. Scramble to the top of the path until you see the the sign that points to the lagoon.

The descending path is more of a climb down over rocks than a path and it has some small drops that you need negotiate. There are some ropes to guide you but, inspect them first, you don't know how long they have been there.

Keep going down until you reach the majestic lagoon. It is a beautiful place and well worth bringing some snacks or a picnic. Have a swim and go and explore the cave on the other side.

The adventurous ones might want to take a head torch to explore the cave further. We met people of all abilities and even took Chris's 4 and 5 year old brother and sister. We had harnesses and ropes and a belay device for them though.
Happy Exploring!
